Textile products (including wearing apparel) registered the highest growth of 38.2 per cent, followed by 36.6 per cent in paper and paper products and printing, publishing and allied industries and 19 per cent by other manufacturing industries, during December 2004 compared to the same month previous year. However, wood and wood products, Furniture and fixtures recorded a negative growth of 12.8 per cent followed by a decline of 6.9 per cent in rubber, plastic, petroleum and coal products and 2.3 per cent in leather and leather and fur products. As many as 14 of the 17 two-digit level of National Industrial classification (NIC-87)industry groups, showed positive growth during last December.
As per use-based classification, the growth during the month compared to Dec-2003 is, 6.1 per cent in basic goods, 14.4 per cent in capital goods and 3.1 per cent in intermediate goods. The consumer durables and consumer non-durables recorded a growth of 13 per cent and 11.6 per cent, with the over all growth in consumer goods being 11.9 per cent. The Central Statistical Organisation of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, which just released the Index of the Industrial Production for the month of December 2004, also said that the indices for November have undergone the first revision and those for September, the final revision, in the light of the updated data received from the source agencies. It reported no significant revision in the indices for both September and November 2004.
As already stated, the Industrial Production during December registered an increase of 7.9 per cent, with the over all growth in the general index being 8.4 per cent, for the period April-December 2004. The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and
