The Finance Minister has abolished the surcharge on tea and vanaspati since this gives a good relief for the common citizen. Today there is a surcharge of Rs. 1 per kg on tea and excise duty of Rs. 1 per kg on refined edible oils and Rs. 1.25 per kg on vanaspati. The Finance Minister proposed to abolish both levies and fully exempt the two items from taxation for this is beneficial for the common citizen.
