The Government has clarified that the State Governments shall continue to hold their own Common Entrance Tests for admission to MCA programmes in Institutions within their States as before. All private Institutions affiliated to a State University in the State shall admit students based on the State level examination in a fair and transparent manner. All admissions in different approved quotas shall be made strictly on the basis of inter-se merit based on Common Entrance Tests as specified by the State Government. The management quota/seats shall be filled in accordance with the judgement delivered by the Honble Supreme Court in Islamic Academy of Education Vs State of Karnataka and others(WP(civil) No.350 of 1993).
The Government had earlier decided to dispense with the All India MCA Common Entrance Test (AIMCET). Accordingly, the IIT Roorkee has also been allowed to conduct its own Joint Admission Test for Management (JAM) for admission to MCA programmes in IITs for the year 2005-06 onwards. All the Central/Deemed Universities including all private institutions, may conduct their own Entrance Exam and admit students in a fair and transparent manner.
