The Union Finance Minsiter, Shri P. Chidambaram, has announced that the backward districts of Bihar would receive assistance from the Backward Regions Grant Fund. The Finance Minister said that till now, Bihar received special assistance through the Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojana (RSVY). The transition arrangements under RSVY would continue untill 2006-07, he said.
He pointed out that recognising the needs of Bihar, the Twelfth Finance Commission (TFC) has made substantial grants amounting to Rs.7975 crore for the period 2005-10. Bihar has also been identified as one of the few states requiring special grants for the health and education sectors, he added.
