shri jaipal reddy inaugurates photo exhibition on jammu and kashmir

A weeklong photographic exhibition ‘Jammu and Kashmir – A Passage in Time’ was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Culture, Shri S. Jaipal Reddy at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, today. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Jaipal Reddy said that the exhibition vividly captures the good as well as the turbulent times that the State has gone through over the last five decades. The State is now returning to normalcy and it is this return to peace that will once again usher in good times for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he said.

The exhibition, comprising more than 125 pictures, depicts the journey of the State over the last fifty years. The pristine scenic beauty of the State, the colourful life style of its people, the religious harmony that prevailed in the State for centuries symbolized by the great temples, mosques and monasteries in different regions has been displayed. The exhibition also shows the trials and tribulations that the State had to face because of invasions and terrorist activities, people’s resilience and faith in the democratic process and the State’s march now on the path of progress.

The exhibition has been organized by the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) in collaboration with Photo Division and the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. Smt. Gayatri Sinha has curated the exhibition.

The exhibition will remain open from 11.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. till 28th of this month.
