For the fiscal 2005-06, an allocation of Rs.9308 crore has been made for North Eastern Region. The Union Finance Minister, Shri P. Chidambaram, allocated RS.450 crore in the Budget proposals 2005-06, as a special package for high-way development in this region.
The Minister said that the Kumarghat Agartala and Lumding Silchar Hiribam Imphal projects would be supported with additional funds outside the railway budget as projects of national importance.
All Ministries and Departments are required to allocate at least 10% of their plan budget for schemes and programmes in the North Eastern Region, he said.
