rs.9308 crore allocated for north eastern region

For the fiscal 2005-06, an allocation of Rs.9308 crore has been made for North Eastern Region. The Union Finance Minister, Shri P. Chidambaram, allocated RS.450 crore in the Budget proposals 2005-06, as a special package for high-way development in this region.

The Minister said that the Kumarghat – Agartala and Lumding – Silchar – Hiribam – Imphal projects would be supported with additional funds outside the railway budget as projects of national importance.

All Ministries and Departments are required to allocate at least 10% of their plan budget for schemes and programmes in the North Eastern Region, he said.
