RailTel Corporation of India Limited (RCIL), a public sector undertaking of the Ministry of Railways, is generating good business. It has built up good business clients by establishing business relationships with major telecom service providers across the country.
RCIL has a national level tie-up for leasing of bandwidth and services to Tata and Hutch. Other important clients include BSNL, Bharti, Idea, Equent, BPL, Pacenet, Sify and BG Broadband.
The Company earned Rs. 36.30 crores revenue from the lease of bandwidth and dark fibre, tower space, Internet bandwidth and colocational facilities.
The total earnings in 2003-2004 were Rs. 28.1 crores, which were adequate to cover operating expenses and internet costs. The operating profit in the year was Rs. 4.2 crores.
