The gross earnings of Indian Railways increased by Rs.961.86 crores during the three quarters of the current financial year ending December, 2004, compared to the budget proportions of earnings. The budgetary target of earnings for the period was Rs.32811.09 crores, whereas the actual earnings were Rs.33772.92 crores.
The passenger traffic increased by 247.80 million passengers. A total of 4052.36 million passengers were booked during the period compared to 3805.56 million passengers booked during the corresponding period of the previous year.
As for punctuality performance, mail and express trains on broad gauge recorded 87.5 per cent punctuality falling short of the target of 90 per cent by 2.5 per cent. Punctuality of mail and express trains on metre gauge, however, registered 97.8 per cent punctuality against the target of 95 per cent, during the period.
