The national per capita income in real terms i.e. at 1993-94 prices is estimated at Rs.11799 during 2003-04 against Rs.11013 in the previous year. This represents an increase of 7.1 per cent during the period. The per capita income at current prices is estimated at Rs.20989 during 2003-04 against Rs.19040 in the previous year representing a growth of 10.2 per cent.
The Private Final Consumption Expenditure in the domestic market at current prices worked out to be Rs.1765849 crore during 2003-04 against Rs.1585132 crore in the previous year. At constant prices the Private Final Consumption Expenditure amounted to Rs.964865 crore during the period against Rs.891419 crore during 2002-03. According to the quick estimates of the Central Statistical Organisation, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the private final consumption expenditure has shown significant increase both at current and constant prices.
The per capita private final consumption expenditure during the period under report is stated to be Rs.16457 at current prices and Rs.8992 at constant prices in comparison with Rs.15025 and Rs.8449 in the previous year, respectively. The expenditure at constant prices on all items, except sugar and gur, coffee, tea and cocoa and clothing increased during the period in comparison with the previous year i.e.2002-03.
