The National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC) extended financial assistance to more than 97,000 beneficiaries with an amount of Rs.257 crore during the last three years. This was stated by the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Smt. Meira Kumar while addressing the Members of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee attached to her Ministry, here today. The main schemes of the Corporation are Term Loan Scheme, Educational Loan Scheme, Micro Finance and Mahila Samridhi Yojana.

In pursuance of National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP), the Government has recently increased the authorised share capital of NMDFC from Rs. 500 crore to Rs, 650 crore. In the current year, Rs.41 crore have been released towards equity support to the Corporation, which is the highest amount of equity contribution by the Government in the last ten years, the Minister stated.

Some of the Members suggested that there should be an in-depth survey to determine the exact number of beneficiaries among the minorities who need the support of various schemes offered by the Government.

To meet its main objectives and aspirations of the NCMP, the Corporation was preparing a new plan with focus in 41 Minority Concentration Districts, the Minister added.

The Minister of State, Smt. Subulaxmi Jagdeeshan was also present.
