The National Rail Museum (NRM) celebrated Museum Day here today. This day is celebrated by the NRM as it was opened to public on February 1, 1977, 28 years ago.

The day-long activities included Buggies jumps, joy train, mono rail (steam engine train) and distribution of prizes to the children who were winners in the Drawing and Painting, Origami and Book Review Competitions held on the Bal Divas on November 14, 2004. The President, Railway Womens’ Welfare Central Organization (RWWCO), Smt. Mithlesh Singh, who was Chief Guest on the occasion, gave away prizes to the children.

As part of the day-long celebrations, the world’s smallest working steam engine, built by Iqbal Ahmed of Nagpur, which has figured in the Guinness Book of Records and which can rest on thumb nail, was exhibited by him alongwith his miniature working train. Children took ride on 2.5 feet x 11 inch train made by Iqbal Ahmed. Shri Ahmed has taken part in various exhibitions abroad including Germany and the USA.

Other highlights of the Museum Day celebrations included a cultural programme by Western Railway Cultural Team. The Museum also lighted its famous Patiala State Mono Rail Trainways that takes the visitors around the pond. The joy train was an added attraction for the public.
