Indian Railways have planned to introduce three phase electric traction system based on most advanced Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) Technology for Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) trains in Mumbai suburban section.
This system will provide higher reliability, improved energy efficiency, better performance and safety.
This technology is also proposed to be developed progressively for high horse power three phase electric locomotives for long haul trains.
