In a process initiated a few years ago, involving consultations with stakeholders and followed by the recommendation of the Advisory Committee, the Ministry of Small-Scale Industries has identified 108 items for de-reservation. Among these, 30 items are in the category of textile products, including hosiery, as this sector is poised for rapid growth.
The provision for promotion of Small-Scale Industry Schemes is being enhanced to Rs.173 crore for 2005-06. Small Industries Development Bank of India(SIDBI) has established this year a SME Growth Fund with a corpus of Rs.500 crore. Small and medium units in knowledge-based industries such as pharma, biotech and IT will be provided equity support through this fund.
The Finance Minister, Shri Chidambaram also informed the House that Small and Medium Enterprises Development Bill would be introduced in this Session of Parliament. The legislation will provide a supportive environment for small and medium enterprises.
