Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (MECL), Nagpur in Maharashtra State, a public sector unit of the Ministry of Mines, registered a sales turnover of Rs.18.40 crore and Rs.17.18 crore during the quarter ending September 04 and December 04, respectively against Rs.11.39 crore and Rs.13.58 crore during the same period of the previous year. The gross margin during these quarters stood at Rs.4.53 crore and Rs.3.79 crore as against Rs.26 lakhs and Rs.1.31 crore respectively for the same period of the previous year. This information was given by Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Shri Rajneesh Gupta, in a quarterly review meeting taken by the Mines Secretary, Shri C.D. Arha. The cumulative sales turnover of the company up to December, 2004, has been Rs.51.48 crore as against Rs.38.32 crore for the same period last year, registering an increase of 34 per cent.
The company achieved almost 100 per cent of its target in the quarter ending December, 2004 against 88 per cent during the same period last year. The developmental mining during both the quarters has crossed the target. During the second quarter of the fiscal, it carried out mining of 1588 meters against a target of 1425 meters and in the third quarter, the mining performance was 1720 meters against a target of 1485 meters. The Secretary appreciated the progress of MECL and asked the company to accelerate its performance during the rest of the financial year to stage a turnaround.
