Mauritius has evinced keen interest in India’s efforts for controlling vehicular pollution in urban areas and lauded India’s role in raising developing countries’ concerns on environment related issues, particularly on climate change, in various international fora. This was indicated at a meeting between the Minister for Environment and Forests, Thiru A. Raja, and Mr R. Bhagwan, Minister of Environment, Government of Mauritius, here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Thiru Raja informed the visiting Minister that emission of green house gases by India is very low, both in terms of per capita as well as aggregate emissions, amounting to about 3 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Observing that transfer of environmentally sound technologies to developing countries remains a major concern, Thiru Raja stressed that the international community has to understand that ecological security and social equity are the two cornerstones of economic development.
