As a gesture of solidarity, goodwill and friendship for the people of Bangladesh affected by floods, Prime Minister had offered humanitarian relief assistance of Rs.100 crores.
A Memorandum of Understanding governing the utilization of this assistance was signed between the Foreign Secretary of the Government of India and the High Commissioner of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh at New Delhi today. The amount would be used for procurement of foodgrains, medicines and building materials from India.
The assistance is in the strong tradition of India, extending a hand of friendship and material assistance, within its means, to victims of natural disasters in friendly and neighbouring countries.
