Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for extension of six months to the on going World Bank -assisted programme National Agricultural Technology Project up to June 30, 2005. The expenditure for this period will be met out of the savings of the project.
The project would help in improving the efficiency of the organization and management systems of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and enhancing the performance and effectiveness of priority research programmes in responding to the technological needs of farmers. It would also improve the effectiveness and financial sustainability of the technology dissemination system with greater accountability to, and participation by, the farming communities. The overall strategies under the Project are to promote economic growth and social development in the context of micro economic stability.
The National Agricultural Technology Project is being implemented jointly by the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation.
