esic sets up committee to review medical benefit scheme

The ESI Corporation at its special meeting held in New Delhi today decided to set up a committee to review the functioning of medical care under ESI Scheme. The committee has been asked to make its recommendations within a specific time frame to be notified shortly.

Presiding over the meeting the Labour & Employment Minister and Chairman of the Corporation Sh. K. Chandersekhar Rao said that improvements in the medical care system would involve a major policy decision. He said that we will have to keep pace with the changing global trends in meeting social security requirements of our workforce. Sh. Rao said that the new members joining the workforce are well educated and highly skilled. They expect improvement in the entire gamut of services. The Minister stressed the importance of good health of workers saying that it will improve the overall national productivity.

The Meeting also gave a go ahead signal for implementing the unemployment scheme after seeking some clarifications. The scheme was approved at the last meeting of the ESIC held on 1st of this month.
