The Director General of the Employees State Insurance Corporation, ESIC, Dr. Ajay Dua has been elected Chairman of the Commission on Medical Care and Sickness Insurance of the International Social Security Association (ISSA). He was elected at the annual Bureau meeting of the ISSA held at Geneva.
It is for the first time that a representative from a developing country has been elected as Chairman of the Commission, the main technical body of ISSA responsible for monitoring developments in the field of sickness insurance and medical cares worldwide.
ISSA is an affiliate of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) devoted to promotion and development of social security programmes globally. The Association has over 380 social security organisations in 150 countries as its member. These include the Employees Provident Fund Organisation and the Employees State Insurance Corporation from India.
