computerisation of goods sheds

Friday, February 18, 2005

Indian Railways have begun computerization of the work of 300 goods sheds and sidings to benefit merchants and industry in a big way. This will help individual wagon tracking and electronic payments. This will cover commercial aspects of freight business. This will also plug leakages of revenue.

Computerization of goods sheds comes following the success of the Phase-I of Rake Management System of the Freight Operations Information System (FOIS), which has helped better operations and wagon availability.

In addition, Coaching Stock Management module covering passenger coaches and parcel vans of Coaching Operations Information System (COIS) has been taken up in the current financial year 2004-2005.

Punctuality module for better train monitoring and analysis of delay has already been implemented last year.
