The Department of Posts has brought out a Commemorative Postage Stamp on noted industrialist Padampat Singhania to coincide with his Birth Centenary Day. The commemorative stamp in the denomination of rupees five was released by the Vice President of India, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, here today. Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology and Shri Prakash Jaiswal, Minister of Home Affairs were also present on the occasion.
Singhania was one of the pioneers and leading industrialists of the country who founded the J.K. Organisation which has now 70 units in India and abroad with activities ranging from conventional products to cotton textiles, jute textiles, woolen textiles, rayon, nylon, iron & steel, cement, shipping, air transportation, etc. As one of the signatories to the Constitution in the capacity of member of the Constituent Assembly Padampat Singhania has also played a significant role.
While paying rich tributes to Padampat Singhania, Shri Shekhawat said that Padampat Singhania was a dreamer, a visionary and a leader of industry. Above all, Singhania was such an industrialist with nationalistic fervour who fought for the freedom of the country through industrial and economic liberation, as he believed so.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shakeel Ahmad said that the stamp on Singhania will spread the message of entrepreneurship combined with patriotism and love for humanity which will boost the inspiration to contribute to Indias economic development. Shri Prakash Jaiswal also spoke on the occasion highlighting the patriotism and other great qualities of Singhania.
