The total coal production in the country in January 2005 is estimated at 49.07 million tonnes (MT) as against 46.87 MT in the same month last year. Out of this 477 working mines of Public Sector Coal India Limited (CIL) and its subsidiaries produced 30.73 MT, 67 mines of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), a joint Undertaking of Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of India, produced 3.23 MT and other 16 mines contributed 15.11 MT.
The total off-take of coal during the month was 46.97 MT against 45.02 MT during January 2004. Coal off-take by CIL was 28.85 MT in January 2005, SCCL 3.19 MT and other mines 14.93 MT.
Closing stock in January, 2005 was 18.16 MT out of which CIL had 16.72 MT, SCCL 0.40 MT and others 1.04 MT.
