The officers and employees of Coal India Limited (CIL) have contributed one day's salary/wages amounting to Rs.10 crore to the PM's National Relief Fund for the relief and rehabilitation of the Tsunami affected people of India. The cheque was presented today to the Prime Minister, Shri Manmohan Singh by the Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao in the presence of Secretary, Coal; CMD, CIL and representatives of trade unions of CIL.
A cheque of Rs. 2 crore was also presented by CMD, Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) for the purpose. NLC, apart from this contribution had provided material support to the affected people of Tamil Nadu, immediately after the Tsunami disaster to mitigate the widespread suffering in the affected areas.
