CBI TAKES OVER THE 'GUTKHA' CASE OF MUMBAI

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered an FIR in the 'Gutkha'
case after issue of notification under section 5 of the DSPE Act, by the
Government of India and taken up the investigation of the case FIR No.
249/2004 registered at J.J.Marg Police Station, Mumbai, Maharashtra. The
case has been taken up with the consent of the State Govt. of Maharashtra.

The case has been registered u/s 120-B r/w 384, 387 & 34 IPC, u/s 3 & 25
of the Arms Act and u/s (1) (ii), 3(2) and 3 (4) of MCOCA Act, 1999
against the accused (1) Jamiruddin @ Jumbo @ Kalya Ansari (2) Rajesh @
Rajubhai Panchariya (3) Anis Ibrahim Kaskar (4) Mohd. Farukh Mansuri.
Both Anis Ibrahim Kaskar and Mohd. Faruka Mansuri are key accused in the
Bombay Bomb Blast cases of 1993 and are absconding. Interpol has issued
Red Corner Notice against the two absconders.

On a complaint from a person that accused Jumbo @ Jamir and Anis Ibrahim
Kaskar threatened to kill him and his associate Arif and forcibly got
demand draft for Rs. 2,64,000/- in the name of another accused Rajubhai
and thereby got five Gutkha filling & Pouch machines exported from India
to Dubai from where there machines were sent through Farukh Mansuri to
Karachi, the above case was registered.

After registering the case last evening, a four-member CBI team led by a
DIG has left for Mumbai today for carrying out investigation.
