CBI ARRESTS REGIONAL PASSPORT OFFICER AND HIS TOUT FOR BRIBE.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a tout of Regional Passport Office (RPO), Jaipur for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000/- from the complainant and subsequently the Regional Passport Officer, Jaipur for accepting Rs.6,000/- from the tout as bribe for issuing eight passports.

It was alleged in the complaint that Rs. 1200/- per passport has to be paid to the tout of the RPO for getting the issue of passport expedited. The tout had to pay Rs. 6,000/- to the Regional Passport Officer, Jaipur at his residence. After CBI caught the tout, he delivered Rs. 6,000/- to the Regional Passport Officer, as per prior arrangement. The officer was caught red-handed while accepting Rs. 6,000/- from the tout. Both the tout and the official were arrested.

During the search of the house of the passport official, investments of Rs. 22 lakh in PPF, Rs. 4.6 lakh in NSCs, bank balance of Rs. 8.75 lakh in various bank accounts, a palatial house in Vaishali Nagar, a Maruti car and household articles and cash worth Rs. 92,000/-, all adding to around Rs. 50 lakh, were recovered. The search is still under progress.
