senegal health minister calles on dr. ramadoss

A delegation from Senegal headed by the Minister for Health and Prevention Mr. Issa Mbaye Samb called on the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss in New Delhi yesterday and discussed possible areas of cooperation in the health sector. The visiting Minister told Dr. Ramadoss that his country was looking for cooperation from India in the area of pharmaceuticals as well as improving the quality of healthcare. Mr. Samb told Dr. Ramadoss that he had visited the Indian Council for Medical Research as well as the Ranbaxy laboratory and was impressed by the research being carried out on certain tropical diseases like Malaria and Tuberculosis. He said that his country did not want to reinvent the wheel but would like to build on the research outcomes from India.

Reciprocating the welcome of the visiting Minister, Dr. Ramadoss informed him that India was the fourth largest in terms of pharmaceuticals production. He also shared with the visiting Minister details on the new focus area, the Indian systems of medicine especially Ayurveda. He informed the visiting delegation that India would be happy to enter into a dynamic cooperation agreement.
