Welfare Measures for overseas Indians

The Minister of State (Independent charge) for the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs Shri Oscar Fernandes told the Lok Sabha that Overseas Indians consist of Persons of Indian Origin who are citizens of other countries and Non-Resident Indians who are citizens of India working/living abroad. The welfare measures undertaken by Government for the former category include the facilities of PIO Card and Overseas Citizenship of India and incentives for investments in most sectors under the automatic route. Welfare measures for the latter category, particularly for the Overseas Indian workers, include the Pravasi Bhartiya Bima Yojana, assistance through the embassies in cases of death, repatriation etc. and legal advice.
