Mumbai: Sixty-seven year old, Dr. Vijaypath Singhania
will be sworn in as Mumbai’s new sheriff on Monday.
He will fill in the vacuum left, ever since Dr. Jagannath
Hegde finished his term in 2004.
The Governor of Maharashtra, S M Krishna, will direct
the vow to the veteran aviator, industrialist and chairman
Emeritus of Raymond Ltd in the Darbar Hall of the Raj
Bhavan on Monday.
Recently, Singhania had made headlines when he became
the first man to fly a hot air balloon to an altitude
of 69,852 feet above sea level on November 26. This
keen aviator is also passionate about photography and
loves to indulge in sports like squash, billiards, snooker
and golf. In reality, he is an honorary PhD from the
London Institute of Technology and Research. The Central
government had bestowed him with the Tenzing Norgay
National Adventure Award in 2001. He is also the Ex-Chairman
of the Royal Western India Turf Club of Mumbai and has
also served on the Board of Governors of the Indian
Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
Vijaypath Singhania will now find his name among other
elites who have had the honor previously, including
cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, social activist Nana Chudasama,
actress Usha Kiran and filmmaker Kiran Shantaram.
