Thane police has organized a musical concert by Shaimak
Davar on 17 December 14, 2005 to raise funds to build
police hospital and school for children of all personnel.
The price of each ticket is about Rs 4000.
Thane police chief D Sivanandan and his men are working
overtime for the successful completion of the show and
to support the cause. For this purpose, all cops have
been asked to raise funds. All of the 25 police stations
under the Thane police commissionerate have been asked
to collect around Rs 10 lakh each. A plot has already
been earmarked opposite Sivanandan's office. To reach
their stiff target, police inspectors have also started
approaching builders, shop-keepers, traders, jewelers
and professionals in the area for chanda. "We have
been told to ensure that the tickets for the musical
show are sold out," said one of the officers.
However a few of the officers are not very comfortable
in this collection sytem. "Collection of funds
has become a big headache for us. Our seniors check
up with us about the status of the fund collection drive
every other day," said one of the officer involved
in the collection. Until now, we used to ask traders
to resist anybody who forcibly demanded money calling
it extortion. Now, it seems, we ourselves are extorting
money," said a police inspector, not willing to
be identified.
Additional commissioner of police SA Kakkar said "It
was being done for the benefit of the policemen",
as Sivanandan remained unavailable for any comments.
Both school and hospital will be constructed near to
the police quarters. The school will be completed in
two phases," he further added.’
