Mumbai's suburbs will have three more police stations. The construction of the offices is part of the city police's first phase programme to improve security at certain places in the city. The places where the new stations are expected to come up are Jawahar Nagar, Goregaon (West), and Gorai in the western suburbs and Vinoba Bhave Nagar in Mumbai north-east.

The work of constructing another three police stations will commence soon after the first phase of the project has been completed, police commissioner A N Roy said. "We feel that new police stations are necessary in these areas and we have sent our proposal to the state government. It will help the nearby police stations that have a larger jurisdiction," he added.

Roy added that if the department could not finalise the proper places then the police stations will be started in rented structures. As of now atleast seven police stations are being run in rented buildings. In the second phase, P D'Mello Road police station, between MRA Marg police station and the Dongri police station, will be started.
