The Union Cabinet today gave its approval to the following
proposals :
To retain the amount of Rs. 12,000 to be paid by each
pilgrim for the round trip to Jeddah / Madinah and the
remaining cost as subsidy to be paid by the Government
to airlines.
Transportation of up to 60,000 pilgrims by SAA at a
cost of USD 745 per pilgrim return fare for Mumbai,
Delhi, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad and USD 819 per pilgrim
return fare for Chennai, Lucknow and Bangalore.
Transportation of balance pilgrims by Air India /
Indian Airlines from Kolkata, Calicut, Nagpur, Aurangabad,
Patna, Guwahati, Jaipur and Srinagar.
The movement of Haj pilgrims from India to Saudi Arabia
during Haj-2006 is due to commence in early part of
December, 2005. Ministry of Civil Aviation / Air India
is the nodal agency handling the movement of pilgrims.
According to the MoU concluded with SAA, the station-wise
tariff payable per pilgrim return fare to SAA is as
follows :

The decision of the Cabinet will benefit approximately
1,00,000 pilgrims during Haj-2006.
