Lok Sabha MPs, who were shown accepting money on camera
by a news channel, will submit their individual statements
or explanations before the Lok Sabha Secretary General
later in the day.
On Tuesday, Rajya Sabha suspended BJP member Chhattrapal
Singh Lodha in the wake of a TV expose showing him accepting
money for purportedly raising questions in the House.
The House unanimously adopted a resolution in this regard.
The preliminary report of the Ethics Committee on the
sting operation by a private TV news channel was tabled
in the Rajya Sabha after the Question Hour.
The report noted that one of the members shown in the
video footage accepting money is Chhattrapal Singh Lodha
of the Rajya Sabha.
"Since the member has been caught on tape accepting
money for asking questions, the Committee unanimously
recommends that Lodha should be suspended from the House
pending presentation of the final report," the
Ethics Committee, headed by Karan Singh, said.
"The Committee took serious note of the situation
arising out of the telecasting of the programme which
has damaged the image of Parliament and brought this
august institution into disrepute," the report
said.
The Committee, which held preliminary discussions on
the subject on Monday, "appreciated the sense of
deep concern expressed by Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat
and resolved to act with urgency in the matter".
The members of the Ethics Committee are -- Sushma Swaraj
(BJP), Nilotpal Basu (CPI-M), Janeshwar Mishra (SP),
P G Narayanan (AIADMK), Ravula Chandra Sekar Reddy (TDP),
Ram Deo Bhandary (RJD), Mayawati (BSP), B J Panda (BJD)
and Bimal Jalan (Nominated).
