United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson and Congress
President Sonia Gandhi will visit the quake-ravaged
areas of Jammu and Kashmir later in the day.
She will first visit the quake-hit Poonch area and
then fly to Uri.
Gandhi will visit Tangdhar before leaving for New
Delhi on 10th December.
Gandhi has decided not to celebrate her birthday because
of the catastrophic earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir
and will spend time with the survivors.
She had already decided not to celebrate national
festivals to express solidarity with the quake survivors.
Gandhi will assess the progress of the reconstruction
and rehabilitation work and oversee the preparations
made for the survivors for the harsh winter months.
This will be her second visit to quake-hit areas.
She was the first political leader to visit the quake-ravaged
areas of Uri and Tangdhar on 10th October, two days
after the 7.4 magnitude killer temblor left several
people dead and millions of others homeless in Jammu
and Kashmir.
Gandhi will be the first national leader to visit
quake-hit Poonch area
