Another possible attempt to convince peeved Sena leader,
Raj Thackeray, came about today when Shiv Sena Chief,
Bal Thackeray’s daughter-in law, Smita Thackeray
met the estranged leader at his Dadar residence on Friday.
What transpired in the meeting was unspecified, as the
Sena decided to not let out any details to the media.
Both Raj and Smita declined to speak to journalists
awaiting their emergence after the meeting.
On Thursday, Raj had met his uncle, Bal Thackeray, at
the latter’s Bandra residence, Matoshree. Thursday’s
meeting had resulted after Thackeray senior sent an
invitation across to Raj through trusted Sena leader
Manohar Joshi. Raj had later declared that there had
been no change in his stand.
Raj had quit from all the posts in the Sena on November
27, had alleged that the party was being run by a “coterie
of petty clerks who know nothing about politics”.
Prior to the meeting with Bal Thackeray, Sena leaders
had been unsuccessful with the new “equal-power”
plan offered Raj, with a view to end the bitterness
among the cousins.
Incidentally, this was Smita Thackeray’s third
meeting with Raj through the last week. Should today’s
meeting between Smita and Raj, also amount to zero;
it would very well signal the finishing point of any
likely reconciliation.
