Mumbai: The police, on Tuesday, arrested and charged six
affiliates of the Bhartiya Kamgar Sena (BKS) for Monday’s
rioting with the Maharashtra Samarthak Kamgar Sena (MSKS)
in Santacruz.
The Shiv Sena backed BKS and Narayan Rane’s MSKS had
come to blows near the Santacruz airport on Monday, with each
group claiming majority membership in the Air Deccan’s
worker contract. The police arrested Dilip Vithoba Gade (55),
Nilesh Ram Gaikwad (24), Kuldipsing Karamsing (41), Sanjay
Gunaji More (26), Yogesh Madhukar Avale (24) and Basvaraj
Jagannath Gaikwad (28), under sections 143, 144 (joining unlawful
assembly), 145(joining or continuing unlawful assembly, knowing
that it has been ordered to disperse), 147 (punishment for
rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 324 (voluntarily
causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 504 (intentional
insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of Indian Penal
Code (IPC), the police said.
In Monday’s clash, BKS members Narendra Davli and Mayur
Khange had injured the present MSKS member Pramod Kherade
as he had changed loyalties. Both trade unions had registered
police complaints against each other following the altercations.
