Bharatiya Janata Party, which is celebrating its silver
jubilee with an adhiveshan in Mumbai, is really in trouble.
A VCD showing the party general secretary Sanjay Joshi in
a compromising position with a woman who is complaining about
his unfulfilled promises has been making rounds. While a similar
situation VCD can be obtained involving most of the politicians,
the embarrassment for BJP is because of the claims of Brahmacharya
(vow of celibacy). Joshi, like all other members of RSS, is
supposed to be celibate and the CD has exposed these claims.
Ironically, Joshi is respected for his personal integrity.
The VCD is said to be in circulation for several weeks this
is the first time it became a talking point.
First a letter was sent to the newsmen, then an audio-tape
was released and now a CD has been released. Sanjay Joshi
sent the audio tape for examination and it was found that
the voice was not his. But on the release of the CD, he decided
to register a complaint with Bhopal police who are investigating
the matter.
Sanjay Joshi met the party president Lal K Advani and told
him that he would resign from the post till an internal probe
is conducted into the manner in which a slander campaign against
him has been launched by certain vested interests.
It was decided that the party should accept the resignation
of Sanjay Joshi for the time being till 'the inquiry into
the entire case is completed and those behind it are brought
to justice.'
This scandal and the recent scam involving six BJP MPs in
`cash for questions` are being seen as a massive blow for
the BJP which is already in trouble because the older leaders
refuse to quit and also because the in fighting continues.
