Mumbai: Extradicted underworld don Abu Salem will remain in the custody of Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) till 3 January 2006, Special Judge P.V. Bhavkar ruled on Saturday.

The ATS has extended the remand as it would help to investigate whether, the weapons used to murder builder Pradeep Jain were the ones delivered by Salem and Riaz Siddique to film actor and bomb blast accused Sanjay Dutt in 1993. Investigators claimed that progress has been made in the probe despite the efforts by Salem’s lawyers to keep the ATS busy in court fending false allegations.

“The defence has deliberately misused visitation rights to hinder this process. I urge the court to either cancel or restrict this privilege and take legal measures to end this sabotage,” appealed Ujwal Nikam the prosecutor to the special judge. The court, however, didn’t make any change to the visitation rights of Salem’s advocates.
