Mumbai: Think hard before accepting lift from a stranger. Now-a-days thieves and robbers have formulated new strategies to loot people. Shivanand Tukaram Lokhande, Prashant Gokhale and Anil Chandiramani were looted by four men whom had offered them lift in their car.

Four men, driving Qualis allegedly offered lift to people and after robbing them of the money and valuables they were carrying, took their ATM cards and withdrew all the money in their account, and then dropped off all their victims at their desired locations.

Shivanand Tukaram Lokhande and Prashant Gokhale on 13 December were waiting at a bus stop at Kapurbawdi Naka, Thane, when a fawn-coloured Qualis drove up and the incumbents offered them a lift. Lokhande and Gokhale were asked to sit on the middle seat of the eight-seater. There were three others along with the driver.

After covering a little distance, another person was offered lift. He was asked to sit at the back of the car. As the car reached the Chena Toll Naka near Kashimira, the passengers received a rude shock. The men in the car threatened them with knives and forced them to hand over their mobile phones, gold chains, rings and wristwatches. But this did not suffice the goons, they also forced them to use their ATM cards to withdraw money and hand over to them. A sum of Rs. 5000 and Rs.600 were withdrawn from Lokhande and Ghokhale.

By this time, their loot amounted to a cool Rs 57,600. The crooks then dropped off each of their passengers at their destinations, only to pick up Anil Chandiramani at a bus stop near Fountain Hotel. Kashimira Chandiramani too was relieved of his gold chain and wrist watch.

Gokhale, Lokhande and Chandiramani approached the Kashimira police and lodged a complaint under Sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

The police have made sketches based on the description given by the victims which they plan to circulate at public places like bus-stops, railway stations, etc.

“We are investigating the matter and will soon nab the trio with the help of these sketches,” said the official.
