A major earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale hit Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), early on Tuedsday morning.

The quake stuck the valley at around 3.17 am (IST) this morning and lasted for a few minutes. According to the MET authorities, the epicenter lay near the Hindu Kush mountain range in north-eastern Afghanistan. This is the second quake to hit the valley in two months. Though no damages or casualties have been reported this time, the quake has sent the already anguished people in a state of anxiety. Memories of the October devastation forced the people to rush out of their homes, braving the sub-zero temperatures.

Slight tremors were also felt in the capital.
