Mumbai: Priya Dutt is doing exactly what her father Sunil Dutt used to do to retain his vote bank.

This time she is advocating the cause of 661 families living in illegal slums in Santacruz whose pleas have been turned down in the High court too.

Priya Dutt quickly has approached CM Vilasrao Deshmukh and requested him to delay demolitions for three months as children will have to appear in examinations in March and April.

The question is; will the CM risk contempt of court?
The state government and the BMC have been dragging their feet over demolishing the unauthorized shanties.

The Guzder Scheme Residents' Trust, comprising 281 buildings, has been trying to evict the encroachers, who live on storm water drains since last five years as the encroachments prevent the BMC from cleaning the drains causing health problems for the authorized residents.
The slums started proliferating in the 1990s with the blessings of local slum lords and protection of politicians.
