Mumbai: The arrest of Prakash Nikhalje (55), elder
brother of underworld don Chhota Rajan, under the stringent
Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA)
Is an indication that Mumbai police is now concentrating
on Chhota. His wife Sujata and three others were arrested
in the same case last week. They were accused of threatening
and extorting Rs 10 lakh from a builder in Tilak Nagar.
Elimination of most of his key members in inter-gang
rivalries has already maimed the gang. Prakash Nikhalje
claims that he has been framed and had been detained
illegally.
"I am a well-settled businessman from Pune earning
Rs 1 lakh per month, I have no business with my don
brother. Am I being targeted just because I have blood
relations with Rajan?" Prakash has asked.
The police on the other hand, claims that Prakash
has played a major role in the extortion case and even
have a few recorded telephonic conversations between
Prakash, Rajan, Sujata and three others. According to
the police, Prakash and Sujata have been threatening
builders in Tilak Nagar and Naidu Nagar in Ghatkopar
and demanding huge amounts from them. Those who failed
to pay up were threatened by Rajan's henchman Bharat
Nepali. The court remanded Prakash to police custody
till December 28.
