Osama bin Laden's deputy says the al-Qaida leader
is still alive and leading the holy war against the
West. In a videotape posted on an Internet website on
Wednesday, Ayman al-Zawahiri said despite American claims
to the contrary, al-Qaida is expanding and strengthening.
He said the situation in Iraq is "a catastrophe"
for America and predicted that it is only a matter of
time before U.S. troops pull out of the country. He
urged mujahedeen fighters to concentrate on attacking
oil installations in Muslim countries, saying most of
the oil revenues go to the enemies of Islam.
In the videotape, Ayman al-Zawahiri was speaking to
an interviewer, who was off camera. Osama bin Laden
and his deputy are believed to be hiding in the mountainous
region along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
