Mumbai: The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai
Police has dropped the idea of subjecting underworld
don Abu Salem to scientific tests in the builder Pradeep
Jain murder case as it feels the exercise would not
yield beneficial results.
A scientific test was planned by the ATS on Salem in
order to detect more clues in the 1995 Pradeep Jain
muder case for which the extradited gangster is under
police custody. However, ATS has dropped the idea as
following developments in the probe reportedly yielded
sufficient evidence.
"Scientific tests like polygraph or P-300 test
are not in our mind anymore. The test results could
be counterproductive to our case against Salem,"
a senior ATS official told PTI here today.
"We would have gone ahead with the tests had there
been a possibility that the tests would have led us
to substantiate the murder case and Salem's involvement,"
the official added.
According to him, Salem has already started taking a
plea that he was suffering from a loss of memory and
insomnia. Hence if the tests results substantiated his
claim, this would prove counter prolific during the
trial.
