Mumbai: Rejecting all possibilities of withdrawing suspensions of three BJP MLAs charged with humiliating the Deputy Speaker, Pramod Shinde, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh also made it clear that there would be no reduction in the period of the suspension of six months.

BJP MLAs like Eknath Khadse (former Irrigation Minister), Sudhir Mungattiwar and Girish Mahajan had allegedly used “derogatory” words and hurled abusive remarks against the Deputy Speaker in the Speaker's Chamber on December 13 following which the House had passed a ruling to suspend the three MLAs. Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Harshwardhan Patil, had moved a motion and the decision was taken after the conducted voice vote was in favour of the suspension.

Deshmukh said, “Shende has yet to recover from the shocking incident”. He added that it would be offending to ask the Speaker to reduce the period of suspension at such a time. The members will be debarred from entering the Assembly in Nagpur and the Vidhan Bhawan in Mumbai for six months.
