Mumbai: Taxis in Mumbai will soon have electronic meters in place of the present analog ones. Maharashtra Minister of State for Transport Dharmarao Baba Atram in the Legislative Council announced this while making a statement on a calling attention notice given by Madhu Chavan (BJP) and others.

Mr Chavan and other members had laid emphasis on having electronic meters installed in the taxis to counter overcharging of fare and manipulation by the taxi drivers.

In reply to another notice by Sagar Meghe (BJP) and others, Transport Minister Surupsingh Naik said 4781 candidates, selected by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), would be inducted soon. This would lead to increase in number of buses plying the roads, the Minister said.
