Puja Pawar, a four year old girl was mauled to death a leopard
near the Mulla Baug area of Thane on Sunday. The girl's body
was found by the police.
Puja was playing outside her house on Saturday morning and
was found missing around 11.30 in the morning.
Her parents, both daily wage construction workers lodged
a complaint with the police on Saturday night. The Kapurbawdi
police, who were in the process of investigating the matter,
were informed that a badly mutilated corpse of a child was
found in the nearby jungle. Puja's parents identified her
body. The leopard had eaten away her head and a leg.
Local workers, involved in the various construction projects
in the area and their families have expressed shock. Some
years ago there had been a string of incidents of Leopards
and Tigers attacking the locals in this area but since then
such incidents had stopped. The locals have asked for the
animal to be trapped by the forest department since it is
likely to strike again.
