Ulhasnagar residents are in for a few more days of uncertainity. The Democratic from led coalition has yet to come up with a solution to the unauthorized buildings in Ulhasnagar.

State chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh is belived to have proposed a state pardon for the unauthorized constructions and structures illegally altered. Ulhasnagar was basically a refugee camp and given this special status, there may be scope to grant legitimacy to these structures. Deshmukh told the media that legal experts were being consulted. It appears that the state has in principal decided to legitimise the illegal constructions.

There is a precedent for this. In Gujarat, illegal construction has been legitimised in the past by amending an act, in 2001 and imposing fines.

The opinion is divided on this and a section of the state administration believe it would be violation of the high court order. The law and judiciary department of Maharashtra will take some time over this to ensure it stays in the clear, legally.
