Mumbai: Trade union members of two groups —
one sponsored by the Shiv Sena and the other by ex-Sainik
and current State Revenue Minister, Narayan Rane, exchange
blows at near the Santacruz airport in Mumbai on Monday.
Police said that at least one person was injured in
the conflict.
Both the trade unions belonging to a private aviation
company, Khambatta Aviation, have filed official police
complaints against one another. Sena’s union alleges
that Rane's group intimidated the Sena-backed faction
after entering their office at around 7 am. This triggered
off the brawl between the two groups.
Taking into account the stern mob collected around the
company office, the police force is playing it safe
by positioning a sizeable force to check any trouble.
DCP Shashikant Shinde maintained that ensuring peace
between the two groups was his first priority. “We
will have to keep both groups away. Procedures on action
can take place later on,” Shinde told PTI.
Though it is reported that the nature of the injury
was not serious, the one wounded person, Pramod Kerade,
was treated at a hospital.
