Mumbai: Land allotments by CIDCO during the tenure of V M Lal have once again landed in a controversy. CIDCO has now cancelled allotments to persons allotted plots to build bungalows in Navi Mumbai. Three such persons approached the Bombay HC this week. Hearing the case, a division bench has directed CIDCO to maintain status quo for a week to allow the petitioners to file a civil suit.

The case dates back to 2002-2003 when CIDCO sought applications for allotment of plots for bungalows in Navi Mumbai. In 2004, one of the petitioners N G Shingade applied to CIDCO and was allotted a plot. Shingade paid close to Rs 24 lakhs and was allotted the plot on a 60-year-lease. On July 14, 2005, Shingade received a show cause notice alleging discrepancies in the allotment. CIDCO then cancelled the allotment.
