Mumbai has been experiencing an unusual phenomenon this winter with temperatures falling well below what is normal for the season.

Though Wednesday, 21st December when the mercury dipped to 11.6 degrees Celsius is being described as the coldest December day in Mumbai during the last 56 years the operative word is December and thus misleading. Mumbai's coldest day ever has been on January 22, 1962, at 7.4 degrees Celsius.

This is the second consecutive year that Mumbai has seen such a sharp drop in temperatures, and weather department officials said this was a spill-over from the cold wave sweeping across north India.

"These conditions will continue for some time though the mercury may not dip to Wednesday's levels." The Meteorological department has assured. But, seeing the way they have continuously gone wrong, it is likely thatwe may see the previous record of the coldest day in 1962, broken! Mumbaikar will welcome such a change.
